Job Title: Insurance Underwriter
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (Hybrid)
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 

We are looking for an analytical and commercially minded Insurance Underwriter to join our Client’s Newcastle team. 

You will be responsible for evaluating, pricing, and accepting risks within your delegated authority, balancing technical precision and an ability to build strong, profitable relationships with our broker partners.

What you’ll be doing:

• Risk Evaluation: Assess and underwrite new business and renewal risks in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite
• Pricing & Terms: Determine appropriate premiums and policy conditions based on risk analysis and loss history
• Portfolio Management: Monitor the performance of your assigned book of business to ensure long-term profitability and sustainability
• Broker Relationships: Negotiate terms with brokers and provide technical support to resolve complex underwriting queries
• Compliance: Ensure all underwriting activities adhere to regulatory standards and internal audit requirements

To succeed in the role you’ll be or have:

• Experience: Previous experience as an Underwriter or Assistant Underwriter (typically 3+ years) within the insurance industry
• Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of policy wordings, risk assessment methodologies
• Decision Making: Confident in making technical decisions and working within delegated authority limits
• Qualifications: Progress towards or completion of ACII or Dip CII is highly desirable
• Analytical Skills: High level of numeracy and proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel)
